What is an Oracle and how do oracle cards relate?

An Oracle. What is it? It’s defined as a medium through whom advice is sought from the gods. It’s often thought of as a person, (in ancient Greece a priestess and in other cultures a priest), through whom deity is believed to speak.

Oracles offer answers to your thirst for knowing something in the future. But, really, Oracles are a way to tap into your own innate inner wisdom. The wisdom that comes from deep within, that gut instinct, that inner GPS, already know what an Oracle will reveal. But, sometimes, we need a little nudge (or even yes a huge PUSH) toward seeing that knowledge.

In modern times, Oracles come in many different forms. There are mediums, people who see into your future. We use astrology to determine what may lie ahead of us. Card decks are often used to help shine light on your inner wisdom’s truth.

But, in truth, Oracles are simply TOOLS used to shed light on what you already KNOW to be true and offer a lantern to show you which path may best be taken next to bring you to the answer that you seek. See, it’s all about the choices that we make. Which path, which step to be taken next ~ be that what to order off a menu for dinner, what to wear or whether to embark on a relationship ~ personal or business ~ are choices to be made ~ learned from in both defeat and celebration.

Oracle decks are convenient ways to ask divine guidance and use the meaning of the card to tap into one’s own intuition to find answers whether you use them personally or go to a professional to help support you.

Most of the time, oracles don’t solve problems or offer solutions. But, rather: Using a deck encourages you to go within and find your own answers. This is because what you believe to be true in a card will be very different from another’s interpretation of it. Which of course makes abundant sense, right?

Even the choice of Oracle Deck is a uniquely individual one. Some will relate to angels, some to darker images. Still others will enjoy using animal decks to help guide them toward their inner wisdom.

Oracles, no matter what kind, are a source of divine communication. A way to offer light to you when you are in need of having a question answered. What kind of Oracles have you used in your life? (Astrology, mediums, cards, Angel Speak etc) Do you ‘ask’ Oracles often for answers? And, have you learned anything from using them?

  1. Very interesting post. As soon as I saw the word oracle I immediately thought of the Matrix movie. As my son would watch it all the time.

  2. This is so perfect Laura. And your quote how the cards can be tools to what you already know… makes me breathless. It’s like having a Devine cheerleader in your corner…guiding you to what you know a d believe but may be afraid to admit and dive into!

Oh ~ I like that Kelly! Divine Cheerleader 🙂 And, I so know the ‘afraid to admit to’ concept. The cards often make the divine guidance seem so loving. The ego doesn’t want us to ‘admit to’ something. The soul wants us to embrace it 🙂

  3. Good article. I have many (many, many) decks. Most are Angel card decks, but I have many others as well. I love giving readings and am amazed at the accuracy the cards reveal. And yes, much can be said for the decks chosen for each reading as well.

I have several decks but haven’t embraced Angel cards—-I think they may be one of the next decks I get. Isn’t it FUN when the cards reveal what really IS THE TRUTH?!!!?!!

  4. Hi Laura! I’ve never seen these cards before and they look pretty – I will have to check them out sometime. I think that people are attracted to the cards they are meant to be attracted to. I had dream cards that were a little dark and used those for a short while (didn’t really love them). Then, I had a Motherpeace tarot deck which I really liked. Thanks Laura! Janet

Yes~ we all resonate with different decks. These in the picture are very bright and uplifting. So many can be dark but there may be a time for them too!

  5. I love the word so much as it is based on ancient wisdom which I am very much into as well.. I use the Mother Peace which works with the ancient Wise Woman Archetype.

Oh, Joy ~ I do like the Mother Peace word. Because I work with Medicine Wheel and 4 element theory, I use Mother Earth and it’s so supportive too!

  7. Hi Laura,
I hadn’t heard of Oracle cards either.
Here’s a question – can you make your own oracles cards? Or do they need certain things on them?

    Cheers,
    Gordon

Great Question Gordon! You can indeed make your own decks. I have several friends who have done just that. It’s on my bucket list for myself ~ just have to find the inspired time to do so 🙂
