How To Clear Your Mind with just a feather

That’s crazy thinking ~ I’ve got to go Get Some Fresh Air”
“I think I need to clear the cobwebs out of my head~ I’m not thinking straight.”

You’ve heard yourself use expressions like this before I’m sure.  But, why do we use the jargon, the words, that we do? Why do the references about clearing our minds out have to do with air? And, why should we focus on our thoughts anyway?

Elements are often associated with different aspects of ourselves. The element of Air is associated with our mental self. So it’s only natural that expressions about cluttered minds and clearing them out is associated with the element air.

Air is very powerful. Indeed, it’s part of our lives each and every second simply because we need to breathe. It’s an all encompassing element. You can smell it. Ahhh,  the fresh morning dew. You can feel it. Ahhh, the wind at your back on a cool crisp winter day. You can taste it. The salt air at the seashore. You can even ‘see’ it when watching the leaves fall from the trees in the fall. And, when you were reading this, couldn’t you just feel the mental clutter leave your mind like the leaf that falls from the tree?

Feathers: Great symbols of the element of air

Our thoughts are also very powerful. We are our own best friends and our thoughts are with us 24/7 (Yup, even when we are sleeping our subconscious thoughts are busy in our dreams!). We can’t get away from them. Indeed, our thoughts become us. How are you speaking with yourself? What tone do you use?

If you are looking to grow soulfully, one of the best places to begin is by becoming a better listener. To yourself! Listen to your thoughts for a minute. Are they loving? Kind? Or something less wonderful? Listening to your internal dialogue is the key to learning to listen more deeply to your soul. Taking time to calm the chatter in our heads allows us to hear with greater ease.

This exercise to become more mindful of your own thoughts, to clear the cobwebs in your head, and clear the thoughts that do not serve you is to utilize the element of air to support your thinking.

You will find this mindfulness exercise to be of great value. It will bring peace to you and allow you to become your thought in a positive and soulful way.

This will give you support to dust out the cobwebs in your head, clear your thoughts of unkind and un~supportive words. This release of thoughts that don’t serve you will bring peace of mind to you. Using the element of air will allow you to clear out the cobwebs of thought  so the whispers of your soul can be heard. Have you ever tried this or another exercise that might work? Let me know!

  4. You are so wise. I read the exercise earlier this week and thought – great idea. My next thought was – I don’t have a feather. No problem, I could sweep away clutter and thoughts with the motion of my hand. It worked too.

Here is the amazing thing. I care for a garden for an organization I belong to, Saturday as I arrived to work in the garden, my thoughts were focused on a problem with the garden.

Yes, I needed to think differently about this problem. As I unloaded my tools to begin work, there was a feather on the ground. I sat down to use the feather and the exercise. Not only was my day and work filled with loving thoughts, the clutter was cleared from my mind allowing room for an excellent thought to solve the garden problem.

You are always spot on with your coaching. In person, on the phone or via the other ways in which you share and help like this blog and your events. What an amazing difference working with you creates. Your work impacts my life, work and results at a grand level. This week you also impacted an organization, a community and a garden.

Thanks, Laura for sharing your soul-wise wisdom with me and the world.
