Reading for Self-Development

Self-Development is all about taking the time to work on the pieces of you that you need. It is not a one and done process. There is no easy fix to challenges. Yes, you can get a breakthrough and move ahead. Yes, you can get great Ahha’s. however, it’s in the day to day process of creating your life with your soul as the navigator and to do this you must be in a state of discovery and development. And, reading and writing is an excellent way to do that.

While the next 10 days are filled with holiday celebrations, many people find the time to sit and relax with a good book. Here are a few of my favorites this year. They ran the gambit from Self-Esteem to abundance to get away with a good novel. And, then of course, my most favorite of all is my journal.

A few of my 2013 Favorites

A few of my 2013 Favorites

Embrace your Magnificence by Fabienne Fredrickson allows you to look at yourself through a new lens and see how worthy you are of receiving anything you possibly can conceive. In the Divine Law of Compensation, Marianne Williamson unveils the secrets to the spiritual laws that help you overcome financial stress and bring about the power that abundance can play in your life. Jodi Piccoult is one of my favorite fiction authors. Her books are empowering, endearing and often leave me to rediscovering my own power to be my true self. And, then of course, probably my favorite is my own personal journal. It gives rise to the underlying belief systems that I never knew I held, my capable and ever-powerful spirit and allows me to see myself as spirit does.

This week, will you be reading? I’m hopeful that Ms. Piccoult’s new book will find it’s way into Santa’s sleigh so I can unwind with it and I’ll be spending time with my own journal reviewing the year and seeing all the successes of the year before I invite 201 in.

What will you be doing this week to support YOU? Reading to unwind? Looking toward some self-development? Reviewing your 2013 successes?
Don’t underestimate that you DID indeed have MANY!

Is there a book that you are excited to nestle all snug in your bed with this holiday season?

Whatever you choose, I wish you much relaxation, joy and abundance this week, as we turn the calendar to 2014 and always.

  2. Nice list! I love a few of your favorites, too. I have Marianne Williamson on audiobook and love to replay it in the car – such a beautiful reminder of the way work and money really do flow in the universe. I just began listening to the audiobook by Todd Henry called Die Empty and am absolutely obsessed. Can’t wait to get on the trail with my pups for my walks so I can listen each day. Brilliant stuff. I hope the new Picoult book was waiting for you in your Christmas goodies! We got that for my mother-in-law and I found myself wanting to steal away and read it myself first 🙂 Happy post Christmas days to you, Laura!

  3. Ohhh, my goodness, you must be my soul sister 🙂 I brought a box full of books on my winter break, including Fabienne’s and Marianne Williamson’s book…plus my journal! 3 out of 4 isn’t bad! I am currently working through a book called the Grief Recovery Workbook – really awesome for completing communication around experienced loss…death, divorce, move…any type of loss. I am learning a lot – especially how to help others when they experience a loss. My box is full of good stuff. Thank you for the post and happy to know we are spending the holidays taking in some of the same beautiful ideas 🙂

  4. Love the list. Enjoyed both “Embrace your Magnificence” by Fabienne Fredrickson and “Divine Law of Compensation” by Marianne Williamson. They are on the re-read list too. This I also began to write in my journal with a different focus – who knows maybe I will add a fiction book to the reading list for 2014 – thanks for the thought and suggestion. May 2013 end with more blessings than you can count and may the new year bring abundance and grace to all to do and are – and so it is.
