How to find Sun on a Cloudy Day to elevate your emotions

The weather can play tricks on us, can’t it? The rain is such a nourishing element and yet, for many, it can lower their vibration and bring on sadness. It can bring on moodiness and emotions without you even knowing what is triggering them. How do you get through a cloudy or even rainy day? How can you find the sun on a cloudy day?

The element of water is associated with our emotions. Being aware of this, you can use it to your advantage ~ especially on a cloudy or rainy day. Rather than wallow in your emotions, rather than allowing them to lead your day in dullness, sadness, embrace them. But, do it consciously. Embrace your emotions, feel them but understand that your emotions do not define who you are. Once you see your emotions through this lens, the rain will stop and the clouds will clear and you will be able to find the sun (metaphorically, of course!)

When the air is full of moisture ~ clouds, rain ~ embrace it to soothe your emotions. Use it to your advantage. Feel your emotions and then release them using water. You can go outside and feel the moisture on your skin and allow it to soothe whatever one’s do not serve you at the moment. You can visualize yourself using water to wash your emotions down the drain by imaging or actually doing this while you are washing your hands.

Then replace those clouds. Replace that emotion by finding the sun. Discover what it is~ in your heart ~ that fuels you and go find it. For me, it’s nature. I find sun in nature ~ the trees, the moss, the animals. You might find it in a work of art, a song, or a poem. You might find it in a conversation of connection with a friend. But, you must find it is that elevates your vibration.

The Super Fast Recipe for how to find sun on a cloudy day is this:

Feel the clouds and rain (your emotions), understand them but do not allow them to define you, soothe them and then elevate your spirit by doing something that you love.

Today, the rain is falling heavily. I soothed my desire to go curl up in the corner with a good book and escape my responsibilities when the song by the Temptations magically appeared in my head: I”ve got Sunshine on a cloudy day. I looked it up on youtube and saw these images set to the song. Now, my spirit is soaring!

What can you do to find sun on a cloudy day? How can you recognize your emotions, soothe them with water and move forward in spirit?

  1. Oh, the perfect post for today! I was feeling the sadness this morning. A heaviness. I never associated it with the rain, the gray pallor of the sky, but perhaps, yes, it influenced my mood enough to make me fall into a puddle of heartbreak and regret.

How to find the sunshine on this cloudy day? I’m not sure yet. But thank you for reminding me I’m not alone in this. All of us pollywogs are in this together.

You are NEVER alone, Nancy. Pollywogs are always found in clouds ~ did you know that???? That’s what you call a group of pollywogs~ really clouds! (I just looked that up) Love the synchronicity and you!

  3. Ah, the way to work- ride your bike in the rain. It gets you “there” faster than walking, it keeps you wetter than walking, but somehow the energy expended raises the spirits and awareness.

Oh when I lived a mile away…i always biked to work and you are right it does get you ‘there’ faster!! Roy~ you are taking me down memory lane! Unfortunately, one of my office is an hour away and there are two bridges that prohibit bikes!!!! (But, when I work from home, I do the morning ‘walk to work’ before hand!)

  5. “Your emotions do not define who you are” – great reminder, Laura. Sort of like “your past is not your future” and “the map is not the territory.”

  6. When the rain is falling, like the tears of Heaven, I go sit under the Tree of Life and let it nurture me back to warmth and sunshine.

I, too, feel that way Lilia!!! Tears are falling but sometimes they can be happy tears, right 😉

  8. I’ve embraced this approach as I prepare my taxes for this year. Usually a stressful time when I find myself getting short with others, feeling anxious and generally disliking the task at hand… this year, I’m acknowledging that it causes me stress, taking my time and not getting rattled. A much more pleasant way to complete an unpleasant task! Thanks for the reminder Laura!

Oh, yes, tax season!!! It can certainly create uncertainty as those numbers flow over the paper! Breathe into it 🙂

  10. Love >>> “Embrace your emotions, feel them but understand that your emotions do not define who you are.” In my own journey, it was that truth that allowed me to step outside of my emotions and witness them instead of wallowing in them. Beautiful post Laura!

Linda~ it was true for me as well. Once I was able to ‘see’ my emotions and not ‘be’ my emotions, I discovered an entirely new lens to look at life through ~ one with sun and fun in it 🙂 Thanks for stopping by….KEEP SMILING 🙂

  11. I live just outside of Seattle, so I’ll have lots of opportunities to practice what you’re teaching. Some days I love the rain – it makes me hunker down inside and get productive.
