5 Simple Ways to Keep Your Spirits Up During the Holidays

They are Here! Those wonderful, warm, whimsical Holidays. More than ever clients are telling me they want to simplify the times so they can in-joy them more. They want to keep their Spirits up during the holidays and yet, they are challenged by the demands the Season places upon them. Often times, to keep things simple, it involves the same approach as something big! It involves really knowing what you want and going for it!

Set Your Intentions ~ Spend some time thinking what it is that you want. Do you want a season filled with the laughter and love of your friends and family? Or do you want some quiet time for introspection? Is it a combination that you seek?

Breathe Into the Intentions ~ Take time to do some visualization work for those intentions. Close your eyes and in your mind’s eye see activities that will fulfill them.

Say No with Grace and Yes with Pleasure ~ There will be invitations that you will say No to because they do not fit into your intentions. Allow this with Grace. When accepting an invitation that does fit into your intentions, say Yes with pleasure and joy and ONLY imagine that when heading out, there and remembering the time!

Commit to maintaining some routine ~ Let’s face it. The holidays send our routines into never-never-land. Many of us have routines for a reason. They serve are well being as well as our purpose. Decide which pieces of those routines you are going to keep and commit to them!

Step into the Light ~ Connect with nature ~ in the Northern Hemisphere days are still getting shorter and often they can be dull and gray. Step into the light and connect with fresh air and nature as often as possible.

The holidays can place an inordinate amount of stress on our time, our patience and our desires! It’s with intention, deep breaths, keeping our boundaries, maintaining routine and staying ‘in the light’ that we can in-joy them and keep our spirits up and celebrate the way we want too!

What challenges you the most to keep your spirits up during the holidays?

  1. When the expectations are that we have to be “perfect,” it is so easy to become stressed by this season. I love your suggestion to breathe into the intention we’ve set. That makes so much sense! That and stepping into the light…. I miss the longer days so much.

I do too Louise. The last three conversations were with people who are typically full of joy asking when January comes because they simply want to bypass it. I get it, I too want to bypass in a way because I believe you CAN have the holidays all year round 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. This week, my realization has been that setting the intention has to come before anything else. I have been operating on automatic pilot for a long time. Intention setting has shaped how I look at our opportunities this week as the invitations come in. One of my intentions is a balance between work and family life. With all of the many business parties, it would be easy to be out every night of the week. We just said no to an event Friday night to allow time and space for our family to decorate the tree instead. However we said yes to a Christmas Eve dinner with friends and family because it supports another intention which is to have more fun and less stress at Christmas. Thanks for a great look at how to step through the holidays with grace and intention.

  4. Yes! The holidays are only wonderful if we have the space, time and grace to in-joy them. Your suggestions really help us protect that space. I love that!

  7. I am grateful for this post. The holidays are complicated time for me, what with all of the expectations that exist around them. I am working on consciously questioning what this time of year is supposed to be (based on what we see in the media). Accepting them as they are and relaxing into what presents itself at this time of year is my goal.

Mary ~ that is a great approach ~ setting intentions is key to understanding what you really desire. May they be all you desire now!
