When we live in the present moment, we are not looking at all the challenges on the horizon and becoming fearful of them and the ‘what if this’ and the ‘what if that’ of the situation. When we stay in the present, we are solving the challenges here and now ~ working on creating soul-utions that set us up for success. We are striving to find answers and that energy flows into us. Energy of solution oriented work. It’s here that Joy exists. We are not looking at fears or challenges but at possibilities ~ at solutions. The more you operate in the land of possibilities, the more you find them and the more joy you have. It’s imperative to live in the present possibilities of life.

What’s your clutter? We all have it? Clutter comes in all shapes and sizes. It lives in the stuff in our homes, in our offices, in our cars, in our thoughts, in our emotions and even in our bodies!!!!! Where is your clutter and How does clutter, inhibit you from staying present?  Clutter does not allow you to stay present. looking at it and living around it actually draws you into it’s energy.

How does clutter, inhibit you from staying present? Where's your clutter? Click To Tweet

It drains and distracts you from the task of present possibility. The to-do piles are always facing you and taking you int the future! Consider the worst culprit of this ~ the pile of bills. If it sits on the corner of your desk when you are working on another project, it’s within your vision. How can you stay focused if you have bills to pay facing you ~ literally? They draw your attention and your energy AWAY from the present moment. When you don’t live in the present it’s difficult to be productive and near impossible to stay in joy.

Then, there is our own internal clutter. Our thoughts distract us and place us into procrastination mode. Our emotions, when not tamed, often go on wild, energetic surges that do not show the world who our true self is and physically, we store clutter in areas (fat, muscular tension, bone aches) just like squirrels store acorns in the fall! Decluttering and creating positive and loving energy  in your home , office and self is the first step in your ability to say present.

When you live without clutter and arrange things where positive energy flowing, Soul Coaching® allows you to see and rid yourself of the clutter in your being & Feng Shui is the art of creating positive energy flow in your home. It’s a process of decluttering, arranging great flow and keeping that flow moving throughout your space. 1. It’s so true Laura. When I have less physical clutter I am much happier and my (and my home’s) energy flows more easily. Understanding what clutter really means for you is important too. I love my mish-mashed bookshelf for example. It makes me happy, but papers, bills, envelopes etc…not at all! Fun article to read connecting all the types of clutter.

You got it then Bonnie! It is about understanding what serves you best. I like a mishmash of papers at my countertop ~ at the end of the day it allows me to go through and see all I’ve accomplished but my bookshelves~ nope ~ they are aligned 😉 Glad we both love dogs!

  2. Some of us actually thrive in clutter. (Not when it’s simply hoarding, but having twenty books on my desk open to the facts I seek, with three screens, a telephone, a keyboard and mouse- that’s heaven to me. Because I have what I need to get the task done…NOW.)

Yes! Exactly….that would not be clutter to you!!! That would be inspiration 🙂

  3. What a great prompt as spring finally unfolds in the Northeast, Laura. It’s easy to see the physical clutter (although sometimes ignored) but not as simple to recognize the internal clutter guiding our minds. I appreciate the prompt to spend some time reflecting on this.

Nanette! I so agree ` especially at this time…such a long, long winter for us here in the Northeast! Time to re-align with all that serves us….fresh space inside and out (both of us and our homes!)

  4. I totally agree but i have to be careful. When I’m in the midst of a project, I’m a vertical filer on a horizontal surface – my desk. But as soon as I’m done, I have to clean up, organize and get cleared again. If I put it off, my productivity dies.

Louise! Like Roy said in another comment ~ some people thrive one way at work….if that serves you and serves you well…keep at it!!!! 🙂

  5. Laura I love this blog and I’m in the process of decluttering my office as we speak! I so relate to everything you said! It’s so important to declutter at all levels physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually. I know when I’m feeling scattered and unproductive it’s usually time for a decluttering session!

Martha ~ and isn’t it a great time to do so when you can throw the windows open and in-joy the fresh air to support cleaning out the mental clutter too?!?!

  6. Love this, Laura!

One of my favorite sayings is “Outer order means inner calm.” so whenever I’m feeling stressed I know a feeling of calm is only a quick decluttering session away! My husband and son are a little vexed that there stuff never gets to stay very long on kitchen counters or dining tables, but I think they benefit more when I’m relaxed and happy! 🙂

Stacey ~ The Big Guy here, too, appreciates how important it is for me to be working from an inspired state of clarity and I have had to be really supportive of his few spots that he gets to keep as he desires 😉

  8. Perfect timing! A recent flood in my office (don’t ask) had slowed me down a bit. After behaving like gypsies for several years there is quite a bit of “editing” to do… but it always makes me feel more energized and productive. Thanks.

Flood ARGH (all that water and emotions!). We had one in our basement 4 years ago and we are still bringing it back! No doubt you are able to bring in greater energy as you are bringing back to life that office

  10. This is shining a light for me on my clutter situation, which is constantly out of hand. It’s in my home, on my computer, and in my mind. I chip away at it all the time, but never seem to be able to get on top of it. I know exactly what you mean when you say that it actually “drains and distracts” me and draws me into it’s energy, to the point where I sometimes can’t work without leaving the space. (I suppose I could also clean it up!)

    [Reply]

    Laura Clark Reply:

Sarah~ some people thrive in having things around them while working. Others do not. If this is not supporting you, first figure out why OR even if you DO clean it up, the clutter will come back. Give me a shout if you want support with this 🙂

  11. Interesting twist to clutter. You’re quite right in that clutter distracts us from being present. It becomes a twister-type funnel sucking energy from our being, when we should be busy with a vortex of creation.

  12. I’ve never thought of how clutter keeps us out of the present. But you’re right. I can certainly see/feel how that’s true. All I know it that everything seems better when clutter is cleared!
