Last Weekend, I went “home.” Home. It’s the place where you go to get that feeling of peace. I was at a my pre-prep school reunion in the small suburban town that I grew up in. The town was quintessential New England with all it’s small town nuances and it was a school filled with tradition and teachings of leadership, community and of course, the three “R’s”.
I was reminiscing with classmates from 7th, 8th and 9th grade when I heard IT. I’ve only heard this particular sound two or three times in the last 35 years but I connected to it immediately, like the dear old friends I was talking with. That feeling of #peace ~ where and how do you find it? Like a beam of light, this sound filled me. It only lasted for 10 seconds as it was a quarter past the hour but I heard it depth of my being. It said loudly and fully “all is well”. I was filled with that deep feeling of peace And, I was home. It was not a voice of a friend. It was not the voice of a teacher. And, no, it was not the sounds of the baseball game I was watching. It was the sound the Tower Bells Tolling from the church that I went to as a child. I can hear it now, in my mind.Reminders to connect to yourself come in all shapes and sizes! What is your reminder? The sound that, now 35 years later, showed me how to get that feeling of peace once again. It rang true. It’s connection to me was instantaneous. I would hear it sing from class rooms, playing fields and my own home. It was as if the Tower Bell and my soul were having an intimate, all knowing conversation of knowing something that so many of us forget. It was a sign for me to connect more deeply than I already do.
“Connect to your inner self, Laura, and you will find the feeling of peace.” My Soul and This Bell said. And, this is true for one and all. Last weekend, I went ‘home’ by connecting to that feeling of peace through a sound that resonated through me. Sound is a great way to connect to that feeling of peace.
Where is your ‘home’? Of course, it’s in your soul space. What sounds help you connect to that feeling of peace, that feeling of going home? Is there a song, a melody, a church bell that instantaneously brings you to aligning with ease and harmony? And, once you recognize it, how can you quickly bring it into your day when you are feeling discomfort.
